Eyebrow plucking

What size clipper to trim eyebrows?

No one wants to accidentally shave their eyebrow, which would make the day pretty difficult. A size 3 guard is a good place to start, leaving your eyebrow at a length of 3/8″, or 10mm. You can always go to a size 2 if you want them to be a little shorter, but it’s best to start with a longer length. Remember, when it’s gone… it’s on.

For many of you, shaving in the direction of the hair may seem like a bad idea, and when it comes to shaving your face and body, you’re right. However, eyebrows are a completely different beast. By shaving in the direction of the hair, you ensure that no hairs are accidentally pulled out. Eyebrows are one place you definitely don’t want accidental bald spots.

Can you use clippers to trim eyebrows?

Avoid using electric clippers unless they are specifically designed for trimming eyebrows. And don’t use heavy scissors either. You’ll do something you’ll regret.

Now, take your small scissors and walk over to the mirror. Trim all the hairs that stick out from your eyebrow line. Again, don’t compromise the shape at all, just trim the part of the lawn that needs to be mowed. When you are done, you should have the exact same eyebrow shape. You can now comb the eyebrow back into place and sigh with relief that you have the exact same look as when you started, just a little neater.

How do I know what clipper guard to use?

The protections range from 0 to 8 (sometimes up to 10) depending on the brand. The lower the protection number, the shorter the hair will be. Many of the lower numbers are used for fades, so if you request a fade, you will have extra points for which number you want to fade from and to. The length of the number (or how it is displayed) varies by brand, so feel free to talk to your stylist about this. Know what length you want to achieve and communicate that to your stylist. What the protection numbers on each clipper mean:

1 = 1/8 of an inch: This blade size creates a “Buzz Cut” look when used all over. Please note that when using a 1, your scalp will be visible, so if you are bald or have thinning hair, you may want to go higher if using on top.

2 = 1/4 inch: Still in the category of a buzz cut, leaving a ¼ inch of hair will give your head a fuller look and won’t expose your scalp as much as a 1 or 0. Great for fades and all around.

3 = 3/8 of an inch: This is the last guard of the short cut/buzz look. Not only will your scalp not be exposed but your hair will still be easy to maintain.

4 = 1/2 inch: This guard is closer to a crew cut than a buzz cut. This length is ideal for people with thick or thinning hair.

5 = 5/8 th of an inch: Frequently used in a tapered cut and considered closer to a crew cut or a classic buzz cut.

6 = 3/4 of an inch: Another length used to taper hair, this guard will give you enough hair to style.

7 =7/8 inch: Great for men who want a crew cut look and have thicker or more hair.

What does the lever on Clippers do?

Not all mowers come with a tapered lever, if they do, it will look like this:
Your mower kit usually comes with a number of attachment combs. By placing them on the blade, you can cut to different lengths.

The standard lengths of the combs are as follows:

#0.5 #1 #1.5 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 #7 #8
1.5mm 3mm 4.5mm 6mm 10mm 13mm 16mm 19mm 22mm 25mm

The taper lever allows you to change the proximity of your cut between the fence comb lengths. By moving the lever up for a closer cut, and down for a longer cut. This is especially useful for melts and blends, as you can be more precise in your cut lengths.

What number Guard should I use to trim my eyebrows?

Volume is great for hair, but not for eyebrows. It’s important that your eyebrows have an even length. No one wants to be noticed for having extremely bushy eyebrows. Using your comb, brush your eyebrows back toward your forehead to bring the hair follicles to their full height. Using your clippers and a guard, carefully shave in the direction of the hair to achieve an even length. A size 3 guard is ideal to start with, leaving your eyebrow at a length of 10mm. You can always upgrade to a size 2 if you want them to be a little shorter, but it’s best to start with a longer length.

How do you trim unruly eyebrows?

Now that you have your tools in hand, let’s get down to business. Here are the three easy steps to a perfect brow.

Brush: Using a spoolie, lightly brush your brows in the direction of hair growth. Keep it natural. The eyebrow hairs closest to the inner corner of the eye will probably grow straight up. The others will be closer to a 45 degree angle. Be sure to comb gently so that you only brush the top layer of hairs. If you over-comb, you may have unexpected gaps when trimming.

Start trimming: Once the hair is brushed out, look for long hairs that extend beyond the top line of the eyebrows. They should be fairly visible. Using your eyebrow scissors, gently trim these hairs so that they end at the top of the brow line. Trim slowly and a little at a time. When it comes to eyebrows, less is always more.

Fill in sparse areas: Once you’re done trimming the eyebrows, dust the trimmed hairs off your face and voila! Finish your brow transformation with a little brow pomade, like the BILLION DOLLAR BROWS Brow Butter Pomade Kit in Taupe. It comes with a double-ended brush to easily fill in sparse areas and keep those perfectly groomed hairs in place.

Why don t old men trim their eyebrows?

With age, hair does not always behave as it used to. In the case of eyebrows, the lost hair can become too long, longer than the other eyebrow hairs. When this happens, the hair becomes embarrassing for the person who has it and for the people who look at his face. So, from time to time, we push all the eyebrow hairs back toward the forehead and trim the hairs that are abnormally long. It’s good normal grooming and minimal work. That’s what the barber says.

The hairdresser also says that you should NOT pluck your eyebrow hair. This can cause infection. They should be trimmed with scissors or a tool designed for that purpose.

Why do barbers trim eyebrows?

The barber may use a straight razor to trim the eyebrows. Some barbers are uncomfortable and avoid this method. But it is excellent for creating a defined brow shape. It is usually used in combination with the comb and trimmer method to add the finishing touch to the eyebrow.

When the barber uses a straight razor to shape the eyebrow, he places the razor blade in the end of the straight razor. And uses either conditioner, water, or a small amount of shaving cream diluted with water. They keep the formula thin to see the entire eyebrow while shaping it, while remaining sufficiently lubricated and moisturized to help the blade cut the hair without irritating the skin.

The barber will work around the perimeter of the eyebrow and see how the hair grows. He will gently run the blade across to remove any excess hair and create the natural shape of the eyebrow.

How do you use a Philips eyebrow trimmer?

Gently place the trimmer head on the skin and move it slowly in the direction of hair growth. Make sure the clipper head is in full contact with the skin. Try to stretch the skin with your free hand, so that the hair stands up and is easily accessible. Apply gentle pressure and use small strokes on small areas.

Attach the eyebrow trimmer attachment for the desired hair length to the trimmer head. Place the cutting head with the eyebrow trimmer comb on the outside of your eyebrow. Slowly move the unit over your eyebrow in the direction of your nose, against the current. Use the trimmer without a comb to touch up the hair around your eyebrow. Be careful, without a comb, it removes all the hair it touches.

How short is a clipper without guard?

If the numbers represent 1/8 inch, then the number 1 on a guard means 1/8 inch high. Without a guard, it represents zero and a height of less than 1/8 inch. If you use the zero option, you will get the “Buzz Cut” look. A tight fit that will keep you cool all summer long. Probably the most popular guard number is number 2. This short hairstyle leaves just enough hair to cover the scalp.

Typically, clipper cuts are used in conjunction with a full haircut. In other words, the sides and back are trimmed or cut short while the top is trimmed with scissors. In addition, our experienced stylists can help you decide which look is best for you and suggest clipper sizes for your cut.

Should hair be wet or dry when using clippers?

Soaking wet hair is nearly impossible to cut properly with a clipper, so don’t even try. Proper towel drying keeps the clipper blades from rusting and makes it easier to get the style you want.

Before cutting, attach the appropriate guard for the length you want. To avoid embarrassing slippage, it’s wise to start by using the longest guard for the entire head, then gradually switch to shorter guards for the shorter parts of your hairstyle. Hold your clippers with the blades pointing down and the tip of the guard lightly touching your scalp. For the best cut, run the clippers in the opposite direction of your hair growth, letting the guard feed as much hair as possible into the clipper blades with each pass.
