Eyebrow growth cycle: how fast do eyebrows grow?
We all know that eyebrows grow back because to keep the shape we like so much we have to constantly shave them, but how fast do they grow back? Compared to eyelashes, we would say that eyebrows grow much faster as we are always busy eliminating unnecessary hairs with tweezers! But is it really so?
The eyebrows are also subject to a regular growth cycle: they are born, grow and eventually fall out. Are there any products to aid in eyebrow growth? Have you ever gazed disconsolately at the end of your eyebrows and wished it were longer and thicker? Can we say goodbye to pencils and hope our brows grow neat and full? Find out with us!
What are the eyebrows for
In the course of our evolution as a human species we have lost most of our body hair, but not our eyebrows! Because? Evidently they perform some important function that we cannot give up … But which one? Here’s what eyebrows are for:
- They protect the eyes: It may seem trivial, but it really is! The eyebrows protect the eyes from excessive light and also from debris. One of their functions is to keep our eyes clean and protected! An example? The sweat that runs down our foreheads when we exercise is diverted from the eyebrows and does not enter the eyes. The same goes for rain. This is why our eyebrows are directed towards the outside of the face: to channel dirt away from the eyes!
- They help us communicate: Often we don’t even realize it but our brows move every time our face changes expression. They are essential to express moods and to allow our interlocutors to understand us! An example? A 2003 study found that it is much easier to recognize a familiar face with no eyes than a familiar face with no eyebrows! The eyebrows help us in visual recognition and give us important information about the geometry and symmetry of the face!
Did you know that? Brows are a genetic trait! The shape, color, thickness and size of our brows are determined by specific genes within our genetic code and do not necessarily resemble those of our parents. Similarly, some eyebrow diseases are associated with genetic problems.
The eyebrow growth phase
Brows grow, fall out and then grow back regularly. Their growth cycle is very similar to the lash growth cycle! What are the eyebrow growth stages?
- Anagenesis: This is the actual growth phase. In this phase the hair begins to grow, stretches and is strongly anchored to the hair bulb that nourishes and irrigates it. It is very important not to pluck your eyebrows during this phase as it will take longer for them to grow back!
- Catagenesis: After growth, the degradation phase begins. Once the hair has reached its maximum length, the hair bulb thins and stops providing nourishment. This is because the eyebrows have a limited period of growth, unlike hair which, on the other hand, can stretch continuously. The anagenesis phase of the eyebrows is reduced precisely to prevent them from growing excessively and, immediately after, catagenesis follows.
- Telogenesis: This is the final stage and also the longest. During telogenesis the hair no longer grows and no longer receives nourishment from the hair bulb. During telogenesis the hair remains in position waiting for a new phase of anagenesis, at which point it will fall off by itself!
The entire eyebrow growth cycle is quite long and takes about 4 months! Even though we don’t notice any changes from day to day with the naked eye, our brows grow about 0.14-0.16mm every day!
- Incorrect feeding
- Excess of stress
- Hormonal imbalances
- Dermatitis
- Eczema
- Alopecia
Just like hair, eyebrows also need a good lifestyle to stay healthy and fit! Furthermore, there are also some of our behaviors that can weaken them, did you know that? That’s right: during our normal make-up routine it is very important to take care of the eyebrows! How?
- Do your hair removal regularly without bothering with growing hairs every day
- Remove your make-up every night before going to bed
- Be careful when trying to thicken your brows
- Don’t comb your brows too vigorously
How to improve eyebrow growth
Prostaglandin derivatives, castor oil, Ginseng extract, there are so many methods discussed to promote eyebrow growth, but which ones really work? How long does it take to see the results? In the beauty world you need to know how to juggle to identify the truly effective products compared to those that, on the other hand, are purely commercial. What are the products that really help our brows grow faster and thicker?
- Biotin: Biotin, also known as Vitamin B8, is part of that group of vitamins that are not produced by our body and which must be introduced through food. Biotin is present in many eyebrow serums because, although there is not much scientific evidence yet, it is supposed to promote their growth. How? What is certain is that a biotin deficiency causes hair and body hair loss, it is precisely for this reason that it is always present in hair care products! Even if the exact relationship between biotin and eyebrow fall is still unknown, their correlation is undeniable!
- Castor oil: Castor oil is a substance obtained from cold pressed castor seeds and which has a very beneficial action on the eyebrows, eyelashes and hair. Its use is also recommended in nail and skin care thanks to its strong antibacterial and antifungal action.
- Prostaglandin derivatives: Prostaglandin derivatives are substances that are normally produced in our body and which have proven to be highly effective in the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows!
- Black Sea Rod Oil: Black Sea Rod Oil is a much discussed natural ingredient lately that has the same efficacy as prostaglandin analogs. It is made from an exotic coral, the Plexaura Homomalla, and today it is widely used in products for the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows!
Where can we find these ingredients and what is the best way to take care of your eyebrows? Using eyebrow growth serums! Just apply a dose of the product every day and you will see the first results after about 2 weeks! There are many serums available on the market with different formulations, read the ingredients carefully and make sure that at least one of those we have mentioned is included!
Are there any tricks to promote eyebrow growth naturally? Absolutely yes! Our advice is to prepare a gentle scrub based on sugar, jojoba oil, coconut oil and tea tree oil. These natural ingredients deeply nourish the hair while the sugar helps to stimulate the hair bulbs through its abrasive action. How should this scrub be used?
- Make circular movements in correspondence of the eyebrows
- Apply light pressure so that the sugar performs a gentle abrasive action
- Hold the scrub in place for a few minutes so that the oils nourish the hair all the way to the root
- Remove the scrub gently with a damp cotton pad
Conclusion
Our brows are born, grow and fall out exactly like eyelashes. We often take their presence for granted and do not take proper care of the hair we have on the face until we notice particularly sparse areas that we do not like aesthetically. Eyebrows grow back, yes, but with their timing! After a wrong hair removal, you have to wait a few months before reviewing our beautiful thick and defined arch! For this reason it is important to pay attention during the daily routine and not to stress the eyebrows unnecessarily!
Fortunately, there are quite simple and inexpensive remedies to stimulate eyebrow growth and speed up their anagenesis phase: eyebrow serums! These products contain different substances that act at the level of the hair bulbs and promote the anagenesis phase which is the only phase in which the hair can grow! In the world of make-up, eyelashes and eyebrows are becoming increasingly important because they help define the look and make a face recognizable and attractive. Having long and thick eyelashes today is a must to be beautiful and seductive!
